I love ghost stories. I always have. They’re some of my favorite things to read, but sometimes I have a hard time finding good ones. So today I wanted to share a few scary good ghost stories for all of my spooky lovers out there.
City of Ghosts

City of Ghosts is a middle grade novel that I read last year. It’s about a girl that can see ghosts ever since a near death experience. She has a fun ghost friend who I really like, but when her family moves to Ediburgh she runs into malevolent spirits. This is rather spooky and dark to be a middle grade and I was really impressed.
The Haunting of Ashburn House

The Haunting of Ashburn House was a cover buy back last October. We stopped at a Barnes and Noble and I literally read it the whole ride home. I couldn’t put it down. Now, I’m not saying that this is a literary masterpiece. There were definitely some flaws. But the atmosphere and feeling of the book was addictive. It’s the typical story of a girl who inherits a creepy old house and an unsettled ghost. But it’s addictive as all get out.
House of Salt And Sorrow

House of Salt and Sorrows is so underrated. I found it at Parnassus books a couple of summers ago. I hadn’t heard very much about it but it looked cool so I got it. I’m going to admit I was so shocked at how good it was. It was totally atmospheric and creepy. Our main character Annaleigh lives at Highmoor Manor with her twelve sister. Tragically, several of the sisters died in mysterious ways. When Annaleigh starts to have ghostly visions she begins to realize that her sisters’ deaths might not be accidents after all.
Ninth House

I might have already gushed about Ninth House. If I did please forgive me, but it’s such a good book. It’s dark academia combined with a ghost story and it’s amazing. Alex is offered a full ride to Yale because of her hidden talent. She can see ghosts. Her job is to monitor the eight secret societies of Yale. It’s too big of an opportunity to miss, but she might just be in over her head.
So those are a few scary good ghost stories. Have you read any of these? Do you have any ghost stories to recommend? Let me know in the comments. I love to chat.
Ah! I keep meaning to get to City Of Ghosts!
