The Best Books of 2023

Yesterday we covered my disappointing books of 2023. Today, let’s get to my best books of 2023. It’s been a pretty good reading year, so I had to really think about this list. But I finally narrowed it down.

Shadows of Self

This book pulled me out of my slump and made me fall in love with reading again. Anddd it made me love Brandon Sanderson even more. It was such a unique, fleshed out world. The characters were all lovable and dynamic. Shadows of Self Review just absolutely sucked me into this world, and I binge read the rest of the series in January.

Kindred

While Shadows of Self pulled me out of my 2022 reading slump Kindred made me jump out of my comfort zone. This book was probably one of the most thought-provoking books that I’ve ever read. Every now and then a story comes along that completely changes the way I view the world, and this was one of them. Seriously, I could gush for hours, but please just go read Kindred. It’s a true masterpiece.

Christine

This summer I went on a search for a great ghost story. I found a few that I really loved, but Christine stole the show. I don’t know why I let this sit on my tbr shelf for so long. It was a classic King story that makes even the mundane parts of life horrifying. And I loved all the different perspectives included as Arnie slides into madness.

Fourth Wing

Fourth Wing shocked me. I had no interest of reading it. And at the time I had fallen out of love with romantasy. But the fomo got me. So, I picked it up and was shocked to find out that it lived up to the hype. The writing was absolutely not perfect by any means, and the storyline was super simple. But it was a great time. It was a lot of fun and it made me fall back in love with the genre.

Long Way Down

I can’t stop thinking about Long Way Down. I picked it up because it was available on audiobook. I didn’t know anything about it, but I was trying to reach a goal and it fit. But I can’t stop thinking about that book. And I’m not lying when I say I sobbed through the whole thing. I’m not going to tell you much about it because it’s probably better going in blind. But it was soooo good.

So those are the best books of 2023. I’m so thankful to have finally broken out of my reading slump. And I hope 2024 is filled with just as many good books.

  1. Kindred is on my TBR and every time I see it in a bookshop I pick it up but so far, I’ve never actually gone ahead and bought it. I think it’s definitely got to be on my list for 2024.
