It’s time for my May 2024 Wrap Up. It was a decent reading month. I set a goal to read four books and I read four books. Therefore, I consider this month a success. So, let’s talk about what I read in May.
Assassin’s Apprentice

Synopsis:
Young Fitz is the bastard son of the noble Prince Chivalry, raised in the shadow of the royal court by his father’s gruff stableman. He is treated as an outcast by all the royalty except the devious King Shrewd, who has him secretly tutored in the arts of the assassin. For in Fitz’s blood runs the magic Skill–and the darker knowledge of a child raised with the stable hounds and rejected by his family. As barbarous raiders ravage the coasts, Fitz is growing to manhood. Soon he will face his first dangerous, soul-shattering mission. And though some regard him as a threat to the throne, he may just be the key to the survival of the kingdom.
My Rating: 5/5
The Woman in Me

Synopsis:
In June 2021, the whole world was listening as Britney Spears spoke in open court. The impact of sharing her voice–her truth–was undeniable, and it changed the course of her life and the lives of countless others. The Woman in Me reveals for the first time her incredible journey–and the strength at the core of one of the greatest performers in pop music history.
My Rating: 4/5
My Full Review: I’m not going to review this. I don’t feel like this is the type of content that needs my opinion. It’s her vulnerable life story and she has my respect for sharing it. I will say that it’s a hard read but I did enjoy it.
The Hiding Place

Synopsis:
Corrie Ten Boom stood naked with her older sister Betsie, watching a concentration camp matron beating a prisoner. “Oh, the poor woman,” Corrie cried. “Yes. May God forgive her,” Betsie replied. And, once again, Corrie realized that it was for the souls of the brutal Nazi guards that her sister prayed. Both women had been sent to the camp for helping the Jews. Christ’s Spirit and words were their guide; it was His persecuted people they tried to save–at the risk of their own lives; it was His strength that sustained them through times of profound horror. Here is a book aglow with the glory of God and the courage of a quiet Christian spinster whose life was transformed by it. A story of Christ’s message and the courage woman who listened and lived to pass it along–with joy and triumph!
My Rating: 5/5
My Full Review: This book was amazing. The horror that these people went through was heart breaking yet they remained steadfast in their faith and kindness to other people. It was a truly inspirational read.
Sarah, Plain and Tall

Synopsis:
Set in the late nineteenth century and told from young Anna’s point of view, Sarah, Plain and Tall tells the story of how Sarah Elisabeth Wheaton comes from Maine to the prairie to answer Papa’s advertisement for a wife and mother. Before Sarah arrives, Anna and her younger brother Caleb wait and wonder. Will Sarah be nice? Will she sing?
My Rating: 4/5
My Full Review: I loved this book when I was younger so when I saw it on Libby nostalgia made me revisit it. And honestly, it’s just as good as it was then. It does a great job at teaching valuable life lessons.

Oh, I read Sarah Plain and Tall when I was a kid too for class! We even watched the movie with Glenn Close in it after. Such great memories.
Oh, I didn’t know there was a movie. I need to check that out!
Oh, you should! I haven’t seen it since I was a kid, but it was made in the early 90s and Christopher Walken is in it too!
Glad you enjoyed Britney’s book, I really want to read it at some point! wishing you all the best for June! xx
I really need to read something by Robin Hobb, but I’m a bit intimidated by their books!
That’s understandable. But I was shocked at how easy I got into the setting. I don’t always have the easiest time getting into fantasy right away.
