The Lumberjills Blog Tour

I’m so excited to be participating in The Lumberjills Blog Tour. Thanks to the author for giving me a chance to read this in exchange for my honest opinion.

Synopsis

Berry Chambers and her co-workers have joined the Women’s Timber Corps—known as the Lumberjills—to do their bit for Britain. On their first day felling trees, they rescue an RAF pilot and become entangled in the loveless marriage of her new landlords.

Danger is never far away, be it an ill-timed axe swing or the occasional activity of the Luftwaffe overhead. Add a psychotic farm cat, a couple of young runaway evacuees, a spate of malicious packages, and the jealousy of the Land Girls next door, and life for Berry and her friends is never boring.

Can the girls find the balance between their vital war work and the natural pull of love?

My Thoughts on The Lumberjills

I really enjoyed my time reading The Lumberjills. I had never heard the term before so it was interesting to read a WWII historical fiction that focused on a unique topic. I’m definitely going to have to read more about the Lumberjills because I found them super interesting. While I’m still quite unfamiliar with the Women’s Timber Corps I can tell that the author knows his stuff. I imagine he did a lot of research before writing this.

The only small critique I have is that the pacing felt off in a couple of places. But overall, this was a heartwarming story about a group of women trying to get by during a hard time. I loved the comradery between the women and the slice of life approach that the author chose. I definitely recommend this The Lumberjills if you’re looking for a unique historical fiction.

My Rating: 4/5
