Kindle Unlimited Creature Feature Mini Reviews

I’ve had my eye on the Creature Feature even before I had my Kindle. So, it was one of the first things I grabbed when I got it. This collection was all over the place. I enjoyed a few of the stories but then there were several I really didn’t like. Let’s talk about it.

The Pram

I liked The Pram. The premise was great. I liked the slightly creepy Maine setting and the old farmhouse. The tension was great in the beginning but just when I was getting settled in, it ended. This story would make a great full-length novel because it could have used more depth.

3/5

Ankle Snatcher

I didn’t expect to like this as much as I did. I’ve not liked Hendrix’s work in the past. But Ankle Snatchers was a well thought out short story that really creeped me out. I wish it had explored the monster a bit more, but you can only ask so much from a short story.

4/5

It Waits in the Woods

I really liked It Waits in the Woods. It was a good mix of a missing persons case and folklore. I love it when a local legend turns out to be real. Those are probably my favorite types of horror. I thought everything about this one was good. And you know I’m a sucker for a creepy wooded area.

4/5

In Bloom

This is where things went downhill with this collection. This story could have been great. From the synopsis, I expected swampy, scary algae like in What Moves the Dead, but that was not it at all. The synopsis made it sound like it was going to be a creepy ecological phenomenon instead it turned out to a low budget sci-fi film. It just was not for me.

2/5

Best of Luck

I don’t give many 1-star reviews, but I just couldn’t find anything to like. It had an unexpected ending I will give it that, but otherwise it felt rushed together. The dialogue was off, and the motives were weird. I just realllyyy did not enjoy it at all.

Big Bad

I didn’t love or hate Big Bad. The characters were pretty developed for such a short story. The tension was good, and it had an unexpected twist. But the story line got a little jumbled in the middle and that was a bit off putting. It’s definitely not the worst in this series but it’s not the best either.

3/5

So that was my thoughts on the Kindle Unlimited Creature Feature. They’re short books so I’m glad I gave it a try, but overall, I think this collection was a miss for me.
