It’s time for my August 2024 tbr. Will I actually read it this month? Who knows? But here are the books that I would like to read, if I read at all.
Flowers in the Attic

Synopsis:
They were a perfect and beautiful family–until a heartbreaking tragedy shattered their happiness. Now, for the sake of an inheritance that will ensure their future, the children must be hidden away out of sight, as if they never existed. They are kept in the attic of their grandmother’s labyrinthine mansion, isolated and alone. As the visits from their seemingly unconcerned mother slowly dwindle, the four children grow ever closer and depend upon one another to survive both this cramped world and their cruel grandmother. A suspenseful and thrilling tale of family, greed, murder, and forbidden love, Flowers in the Attic is the unputdownable first novel of the epic Dollanganger family saga.
I’m still in a spooky thriller mood. Flowers is the Attic has always caught my attention, but I’ve never read it. And since Bag of Bones kept mentioning it, I decided that it was a hint that I need to read it. So, here we go.
Black Mouth

Synopsis:
For nearly two decades, Jamie Warren has been running from darkness. He’s haunted by a traumatic childhood and the guilt at having disappeared from his disabled brother’s life. But then a series of unusual events reunites him with his estranged brother and their childhood friends, and none of them can deny the sense of fate that has seemingly drawn them back together.Nor can they deny the memories of that summer, so long ago – the strange magic taught to them by an even stranger man, and the terrible act that has followed them all into adulthood. In the light of new danger, they must confront their past by facing their futures, and hunting down a man who may very well be a monster.
Black Mouth was on my July tbr as well, but I didn’t get to it. Maybe this month I’ll actually give it a read. Plus, with the remodeling it’s one of the only books I can get to at the moment.
Beach Read

Synopsis:
A romance writer who no longer believes in love and a literary writer stuck in a rut engage in a summer-long challenge that may just upend everything they believe about happily ever afters.Augustus Everett is an acclaimed author of literary fiction. January Andrews writes bestselling romance. When she pens a happily ever after, he kills off his entire cast. They’re polar opposites. In fact, the only thing they have in common is that for the next three months, they’re living in neighboring beach houses, broke, and bogged down with writer’s block.Until, one hazy evening, one thing leads to another and they strike a deal designed to force them out of their creative ruts: Augustus will spend the summer writing something happy, and January will pen the next Great American Novel. She’ll take him on field trips worthy of any rom-com montage, and he’ll take her to interview surviving members of a backwoods death cult (obviously). Everyone will finish a book and no one will fall in love. Really.
Taking a drastic turn from spooky to romantic, I want to read Beach Read this month. We’re going to the beach, so I wanted something lighthearted to read while we’re there.
That’s my August 2024 tbr. What are you reading this month?

What an interesting mix! Flowers in the Attic was all the rage back in my high school days, although I never read it. I’ll be interested to hear what you think! Beach Read is a great choice for a beach read 🙂 — I’ve really enjoyed everything by this author, hope you do too!
Thanks! I can’t wait to give it a read.
