It’s Friday. Let’s do a tag. Thanks to Snapdragon Alcove for the tagging me in the Get to Know the Sci-fi Reader Tag! Be sure to check out their post as well.
1. What is your sci-fi origin story? (How you came to read your first sci-fi novel)
Well, the first sci-fi story that I remember reading was a short story in my elementary school literature book and I didn’t love it. So, I stayed away from sci-fi for the most part until I started blogging. The first sci-fi novel that I remember loving was Skyward by Brandon Sanderson. I guess that’s where my origin story began.
2. If you could be the hero/heroine in a sci-fi novel, who would be the author and what’s one trope you’d insist be in the story?
I love a good time travel trope. And I would love for Brandon Sanderson to be the author. I think he would write a killer time travel novel.
3. What is a sci-fi you’ve read this year, that you want more people to read?
If I’m being completely honest the only sci-fi, I remember reading this year was Cytonic. And while it was good it isn’t completely outstanding. It’s a good series so I would recommend it but it’s already pretty popular.
4. What is your favorite sci-fi subgenre? What subgenre have you not read much from?
I love sci-fi horror. That’s not a big shocker though. I haven’t read much from the space opera subgenre but it’s one I’d like to explore.
5. Who is one of your auto-buy sci-fi authors?
I don’t really have an auto-buy sci-fi author, unless Brandon Sanderson counts.
6. How do you typically find sci-fi recommendations? (Goodreads, Youtube, Podcasts, Instagram..)
I get my recommendations from other bloggers, Instagram, and Youtube.
7. What is an upcoming sci-fi release you’re excited for?
I haven’t kept up with new releases this year. But let me know the ones you’re excited for in the comments.
8. What is one misconception about sci-fic you would like to lay to rest?
Sci-fi isn’t just about aliens and space. It’s a large diverse genre that has something for everyone.
9. If someone had never read a sci-fi before and asked you to recommend the first 3 books that come to mind as places to start, what would those recommendations be?
- Skyward
- Ready Player One
- Kindred (People debate on whether this is technically sci-fi or not. For this purpose, I’m going to say it is.)
10. Who is the most recent sci-fi reading content creator you came across that you’d like to shoutout?
Daniel Greene is still one of my fave sci-fi/fantasy content creators.
