How I Catch Up On My Reading Goals

Reading Goals

I’m not doing great on my goals this year. It’s been a weird year, and it’s really effected my reading. And while I know reading goals aren’t everything, I’m a Capricorn and I like to get as close to completing them as possible. So here are a few tips I use to try to beat my reading goals.

Schedule Time to Read

I know reading is supposed to be fun, and scheduling time to read doesn’t sound like fun, but it helps my brain. Right now, if I don’t put a small daily goal on my schedule, I won’t take the time to read at all. We’re just in a really hectic part of life right now and lists help. But let me tell you when I take the time to sit down and read it reminds me how much I love it, and I usually read much more than I actually schedule.

Take a Book Everywhere

I take a book everywhere. I have a lot of doctor’s appointments and meetings out of the house right now. If I take a book with me, I usually have ten to fifteen minutes of downtime to read between each appointment. And if I’m lucky enough to have my husband with me I read on the drive to the appointments as well. In a busy schedule those ten- or fifteen-minute reading breaks really add up. Plus, they help to relax me during the hustle and bustle of life.

Listen to Audiobooks

I have a long drive to work so audiobooks are a great way to consume content even while I’m busy. I also listen to them when I clean my house, fold laundry, cook supper, etc. I’ve also discovered that I like listening to non-fiction best so I’m consuming a genre that I normally wouldn’t with a physical copy.

Read Short Stories/Graphic Novels

Lastly, if I ever need to up my reading count, I will pick up a short story collection or a graphic novel. They’re easier to get through plus they’re just a lot of fun. I’ve run out of graphic novels on my tbr though so if you have any recommendations let me know in the comments.

So that’s how I catch up on my reading goals. Let me know if you have any tips in the comments, I’d love to hear them.
