Victorian Christmas Stories on My TBR

Last year I had the best time reading A Christmas Carol and Mr. Dickens and His Carol. They both put me in the Christmas spirit. And I would love to capture that feeling again this year, so I started hunting more Christmas stories by Charles Dickens and then I fell down the Victorian Christmas rabbit hole. So here are a few Victorian Christmas Stories on my tbr,

The Cricket on the Hearth

I don’t know how I’ve never connected this classic Christmas movie with Charles Dickens. It absolutely makes sense that he wrote the book. I hope The Cricket on the Hearth will give me the warm Christmasy feelings that I’m looking for.

Little Women

Little Women is yet another Christmas classic that I haven’t read. Honestly, it intimidates me a little because it sounds like it could be very sad. But I’m going to do it this year. I need to see what I’m missing out on.

Old Christmas

Old Christmas is a short story collection by Washington Irving that recounts his experience in keeping a traditional English Christmas while he was visiting Aston Hall in Birmingham. What a better way to learn about a Victorian Christmas than directly through someone that was there? I hope this is full of warm nostalgic vibes.

Markheim

Markheim is a spookier take on the classic Victorian Christmas story. And we all know I love a spooky Christmas. This is set in an antique shop on Christmas day when and unexpected supernatural visitor drops by.

Those are a few Victorian Christmas stories on my tbr. I can’t wait to make a London Fog and settle in with these Christmas classics.

What about you? Are you a seasonal reader? Do you have any classic Christmas stories that you want to read this year? Let me know in the comments.
