It’s time for my May 2025 tbr. But honestly, I’ll just be happy if I read anything at all. Last month was a bust and I need to read something that I love.
Jade City

Synopsis:
Jade is the lifeblood of the island of Kekon. It has been mined, traded, stolen, and killed for–and for centuries, honorable Green Bone warriors like the Kaul family have used it to enhance their magical abilities and defend the island from foreign invasion.
Now, the war is over and a new generation of Kauls vies for control of Kekon’s bustling capital city. They care about nothing but protecting their own, cornering the jade market, and defending the districts under their protection. Ancient tradition has little place in this rapidly changing nation.
When a powerful new drug emerges that lets anyone–even foreigners–wield jade, the simmering tension between the Kauls and the rival Ayt family erupts into open violence. The outcome of this clan war will determine the fate of all Green Bones–and of Kekon itself.
I listened to an audiobook about the Mob last month and it made me want to read something mob related. I’ve heard Jade City might scratch that itch and I have it on my shelf already. I consider that perfect timing.
The Shadow of the Gods

Synopsis:
A century has passed since the gods fought and drove themselves to extinction. Now only their bones remain, promising great power to those brave enough to seek them out.
As whispers of war echo across the land of Vigrid, fate follows in the footsteps of three warriors: a huntress on a dangerous quest, a noblewoman pursuing battle fame, and a thrall seeking vengeance among the mercenaries known as the Bloodsworn.
All three will shape the fate of the world as it once more falls under the shadow of the gods.
I don’t know why I suddenly want to read The Shadow of the Gods. I tried it several years ago and it didn’t stick, but I’m hoping it will this time. I’ve heard great things about this series and since it’s completed, I can binge it if I love it.
The Devils

Synopsis:
Holy work sometimes requires unholy deeds.
Brother Diaz has been summoned to the Sacred City, where he is certain a commendation and grand holy assignment awaits him. But his new flock is made up of unrepentant murderers, practitioners of ghastly magic, and outright monsters. The mission he is tasked with will require bloody measures from them all in order to achieve its righteous ends.
Elves lurk at our borders and hunger for our flesh, while greedy princes care for nothing but their own ambitions and comfort. With a hellish journey before him, it’s a good thing Brother Diaz has the devils on his side.
The Devils releases this month and I’m so excited to get my hands on it. I’ve never read anything by Joe Abercrombie, but this synopsis sounds amazing.
And that’s my May 2025 tbr. I hope you guys have a great month. Read something exciting!
