Obviously, I love to read. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t be here in my little corner of the bookish internet. But let’s talk about why I read. There’s several reasons and I just wanted to take a minute to share them.
Escape
Sometimes life gets crazy, and I just need a second to let my brain focus on something else. It almost feels like rebooting my brain. Reading gives me a way to check out for a second while keeping my brain active.
Education
Even if you read mostly fiction there is always something to learn. There are so many cultures, mythologies, and belief systems throughout the world and reading gives you a glimpse into them. I’ve also been enjoying non-fiction audiobooks. I listen to them on my daily commute and it’s amazing the facts that I’ve learn about historical events that I thought I was familiar with.
Empathy
Education ties into empathy as well. The NIH has even released studies regarding the subject. I’m obviously not a scientist but it makes total sense to me. When you read, you’re transported into another person’s head, and it just helps to remind you that even if someone is from a different culture or belief system, they’re human as well.
Fun
Lastly, reading is just fun. I’ve always enjoyed it and the benefits it brings. It enriches my life in ways that my other hobbies don’t. Plus, the love of reading helped me find the world of book blogging and this fun community. So, it’s a win, win all around.
So, that’s why I read. Now I would love to hear your reasons in the comments so be sure to join the chat.

Yes to all of these. I guess my reason for reading is that it is just my favourite way to relax. Reading has always been the thing that I would rather do. I enjoy cinema, TV etc but books have always been my favourite way of switching off
Mine are mainly escapism and fun. The education bit is an added bonus, and I consider myself an empath but it kind of reinforces that. So basically I agree on all counts lol
