September 2025 TBR

We’ve officially entered the ‘ber months and my heart couldn’t be any happier. This month I’m going to step away from horror and focus on another genre that I haven’t read in a while. I’ve always associated historical fiction with fall and winter, and I’ve been missing it. So, I want to knock a couple of these off of my tbr. Let’s get to my September 2025 tbr.

Winter of the World

Synopsis:

Carla von Ulrich, born of German and English parents, finds her life engulfed by the Nazi tide until daring to commit a deed of great courage and heartbreak . . . . American brothers Woody and Chuck Dewar, each with a secret, take separate paths to momentous events, one in Washington, the other in the bloody jungles of the Pacific . . . . English student Lloyd Williams discovers in the crucible of the Spanish Civil War that he must fight Communism just as hard as Fascism . . . . Daisy Peshkov, a driven social climber, cares only for popularity and the fast set until war transforms her life, while her cousin Volodya carves out a position in Soviet intelligence that will affect not only this war but also the war to come.

Winter of the World has been on my tbr shelf for years. It’s finally time to read it. I just hope I remember enough about Fall of Giants to enjoy this one.

The Once and Future Witches

Synopsis:

In 1893, there’s no such thing as witches. There used to be, in the wild, dark days before the burnings began, but now witching is nothing but tidy charms and nursery rhymes. If the modern woman wants any measure of power, she must find it at the ballot box.

But when the Eastwood sisters―James Juniper, Agnes Amaranth, and Beatrice Belladonna―join the suffragists of New Salem, they begin to pursue the forgotten words and ways that might turn the women’s movement into the witch’s movement. Stalked by shadows and sickness, hunted by forces who will not suffer a witch to vote―and perhaps not even to live―the sisters will need to delve into the oldest magics, draw new alliances, and heal the bond between them if they want to survive.

There’s no such thing as witches. But there will be.

The Once and Future Witches has been on my tbr quite some time as well. But I think this blend of historical fiction and magic will be the perfect way to bring in the fall season.

So that’s my September 2025 TBR. What are you reading this month?
