Coffee 101: Vanilla Syrup

Guys, I spend too much money on coffee. That’s really no surprise. One of my goals is to start making my coffee at home more often. I went to my local grocery store to stock up on flavored syrups and I found nothing. That’s the joy of living rural. But the great thing is coffee syrups are so easy to make. With a few simple ingredients you can have fresh, cheap, and tasty coffee at home. So, I want to share these tips with you guys and maybe we can save some money together. I’m going to start a new series called Coffee 101 because it’s important to have a fun drink when you read.

Today I wanted to start off with a basic vanilla syrup that can go with any drink. Here’s what you need:

  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Step 1: Combine in saucepan

Literally just dump everything in.

Step 2: Stir Well

Stir well and often. Sugar will stick and burn quickly.

Step 3: Heat until sugar is dissolved.

I cooked mine on a low heat. It takes longer but it’s less likely to scorch.

Step 4: Final product

You can cook it until it becomes thicker, but I like a thinner consistency.

Step 5: Transfer to a glass bottle and refrigerate.

This bottle is entirely too big, but it’s what I had. Remember I’m on a buying ban.

How to Use It

You can use vanilla syrup in just about any coffee recipe. However, my personal favorite is an iced caramel macchiato.

So that’s it. That’s my first post in my Coffee 101 series. Hope you’ll stick around for more. I have a lot of fun recipes planned. In the meantime, enjoy your next coffee and your next read.
