The Dragon Reborn Review

Like I mentioned in my DNF Diaries post I thought I had dnfed this series for good. However, I got the itch to pick it back up in February. I’ve now purchased the entire series. So, let’s talk about my thoughts on The Dragon Reborn.

Synopsis

Winter has stopped the war—almost—yet men are dying, calling out for the Dragon. But where is he?

Rand al’Thor has been proclaimed the Dragon Reborn. Traveling to the great fortress known as the Stone of Tear, he plans to find the sword Callandor, which can only be wielded by the Champion of Light, and discover if he truly is destined to battle The Dark One. Following Rand, Moiraine and their friends battle Darkhounds on the hunt, hoping they reach the Heart of the Stone in time for the next great test awaiting the Dragon Reborn.

My Thoughts on The Dragon Reborn

One of my issues with book two of The Wheel of Time series was all of the traveling. It didn’t feel like the plot was completely nailed down. I wanted more depth than book two provided. I’m happy to say I got a little more of that in The Dragon Reborn. There is still a lot of traveling and moving about, but it feels like it’s working toward a purpose. It’s working slowly but at least it’s working.

Also, in book three, I started to get an understanding of the villains in this book. The scope isn’t exactly clear but at least it’s something. I’m having to remind myself that this is a huge series and not everything is going to be revealed at once. I need to settle in an enjoy the ride.

And I will say I have appreciated the slow, detailed pace more in this book than I did the last. It gives me a moment to just meditate and exist in this world. Jordan’s world building is great it just takes a while to get there.

Lastly, I noted that I don’t really like any of the characters (Not including Lolial and Perrin. They are lovely.). But seriously, most of them are obnoxious, especially the women. I wish we could get a little more development to have them actually act like humans.

For the most part, I enjoyed my time reading The Dragon Reborn. I enjoyed it enough to want to continue reading the series. I’ve never read a series of this magnitude, so I’m interested to see how it develops over the next eleven (!) books.

My Rating: 4/5
