Apparently, 2026 is the year of revisiting dnfs. With the announcement of A Court of Splintered Harmony and A Court of Forgotten Melody I have severe fomo. I loved the A Court of Thorns and Roses series.
The Crescent City series…not so much. I struggled to finish House of Sky and Breath Review. I dnfed it twice but finally stuck it out. Ultimately, I rated it 4/5 because the ending blew my mind and made me excited for book three. Unfortunately, when I picked up House of Flame and Shadow, I couldn’t connect with it. I dnfed it a few chapters in.
The thing about the Crescent City series is there is a major tie in to the A Court of Thorns and Roses series. I’ve done my research and I think you can continue ACOTAR without reading House of Flame and Shadow, but my brain won’t let me. I will know that I’m missing out on something important.
I said all that to say that I’ve decided to pick up House of Flame and Shadow on audiobook to see if I can make that work. I really hope I can. I want to continue to love and be excited about Sarah J Maas books because at one point in time this would have been life altering news. I’m hoping I can strike that love and excitement up again. Here’s hoping.
Thanks for coming to my ramble, hahaha. Let’s chat in the comments. Are you planning to read A Court of Splintered Harmony? Have you read House of Flame and Shadow? Should I just push through the slow parts? I’d love to know.
