A Controversial Unhaul

My shelves are getting full, so I decided to do an unhaul. I decided to finally get rid of books that I’m not attatched to, even if they are newer reads. That led to some controversial choices. There are some well loved books in this stack, but they just aren’t for me. Let’s discuss.

My Lady Jane

Unhaul

I read this one back during quarantine. To be fair, it was entertaining, but it definitely wasn’t what I expected. I love a good retelling, but I didn’t really expect it to involve horse people. I still want to read My Plain Jane, but now I’m skeptical. My Lady Jane just doesn’t belongs on my shelf.

The Southern Book club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires

Unhaul

It makes me sad to unhaul The Southern Book Club’s Guide to Slaying Vampires. I love the cover and I love the premise, but the execution didn’t do it for me. There were just classic moments of horror story characters doing stupid and outlandish things. Plus, I didn’t love the way the vampire was portrayed. Call me old fashioned, but I like a good set of fangs.

Mexican Gothic

Unhaul

I have mixed feelings on Mexican Gothic. It was definitely spooky and creepy. However, I couldn’t connect with the main character. She came across one dimensional. I would have loved just a bit more character development. I’m on the fence about getting rid of it. Right now, I think I need the space though.

Outlawed

Unhaul

I’m going to be honest. I can’t make it passed the third chapter of Outlawed. I just can’t. I’m sad because I wanted to love this, but the main character gets under my skin. Plus, I just can’t get into the world. I had high hopes for this and I’m sad to give it up. It’s just not for me.

Midnight Sun

Unhaul

I bought Midnight Sun in an excited haze when it first released. Unfortunately, it bores me out of my mind. I thought that it would give more depth to the Twilight Saga, but it’s just rehashing the same things over and over again. I just don’t want to ruin the feelings I had toward the original series by forcing myself to read this.

So those are a few of the books that I’ve decided to unhaul. I think it would be better to pass them along to other readers that will appreciate them.

  1. Oh no! Two of these are on my TBR list. That’s awesome that you unhauled some books that you didn’t love! Frees up some nice space 🙂
