The Search for Synergy Spotlight and Q&A

I’m so excited to be doing a Q&A with fantasy author, Brett Salter. He is the author of The Search for Synergy, which I’ll talk about later in this post. I love getting insight into the mind of great authors. Writing is such a personal journey, and to see where the inspiration flows from is just fascinating to me. So let’s get into the nitty gritty.

1. When did you know you wanted to be a writer?

I think when my son started reading, I realized I wanted to be part of that.  I felt I wanted to give back to younger readers to inspire them the way the books I read when I was young inspired me.  I wanted to find an outlet to scratch that creativity itch that I have on a daily basis.  And I wanted to share my creativity with every set of eyes I could find.

2. What inspires you?

My books take inspiration from everywhere, man.  Literally everywhere!!  I’ve taken inspiration from comics and video games.  I’ve taken inspiration from anime and films.  I’ve taken inspiration from music and all the fantasy/sci-fi novels I grew up on.  I’ve even taken inspiration from my family and friends.  (My characters are way too outlandish to be real versions of them though.  Just exaggerated caricatures.)

3. Favorite fantasy author?

I would say growing up it was Piers Anthony.  I think he helped cultivate my writing style, my characters, and even my sense of humor (on the page and in real life).  I’m always a heartbeat away from a groan-inducing pun or a good Dad joke.

4. What are your must read book recommendations?

“After the Fall” and “Before the Dawn” by E.C. Meyers.  They are companion canon books to my favorite tv show, RWBY.

“Fear and Loathing in las Vegas” by Hunter S. Thompson.

“Alice in Wonderland” Lewis Carroll

“Shakespeare’s Sonnets” by William Shakespeare

Any and all books from The Xanth Series by Piers Anthony

5. Favorite dessert?

Delicious question there!  I would have to go with either a creme brulee or coffee ice cream.

Lastly, tell me a little bit about yourself.

Well, I am an Aquarius/Pisces cusper that loves my family and friends, long walks on the beach, classic RPGs, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, punk rock music, Totinos pizza rolls, watching football, watching soccer, playing soccer, action-packed anime with and without fan service, freshly dried laundry smell, the color blue, classic poetry, comfy pants, Asian wontons, American beer, Salvador Dali, shows that hunt for cryptids, breakdancing to 90’s House Music, chilling in hot tubs when I hurt my knees breakdancing, fluffy pillows, warm showers, cold Coca Cola, afternoon naps, the sound of LPs on a record player, and plenty of other stuff that I cannot think of right now.  Anyway, I also like Wildwood Reads for setting up this interview and giving me a platform to promote myself and my series.  Stay cool and keep a wary eye out for portals.

The Search for Synergy

I think we can all agree that Brett sounds like an awesome guy. Now let’s talk about his book. The Search for Synergy is a YA coming of age fantasy story that is full of action and dragons. And I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t ask for more. I’m so excited to add this to my tbr. Plus, it’s book one of The Talisman series, so there is plenty of dragon adventure to come.
