If you’ve been here a while you know I love a good Stephen King novel. I’ll go periods of time where that’s all I read. Here are my top five Stephen King books so far. I’m sure this list will change as I make my way through his extensive list of books.
11/22/63

11/22/63 was my first King novel and it’s holding strong as my favorite. I’m a history buff and JFK in general fascinated me. I loved getting to travel back in time with Jake and experience life in that time period. Plus, the ending is heart wrenching. It’s going to take a lot to top this.
The Body

I don’t really know why I love The Body so much, but it’s an excellent coming of age story. I loved Stand By Me. It’s a great adaptation of this short story. I read it at a time in my life when I was experiencing a lot of change and somehow, in an odd way, this comforted me. And as I said in My Favorite Book Villains post, I love Ace Merrill. He’s such a great bad guy.
Needful Things

I think my love of Ace Merrill is one of the reasons I love Needful Things so much. I was already enjoying the book and then he showed up. The combination of Ace Merrill and Leland Gaunt made for the perfect evil pair.
The Shining

You know The Shining had to be on this list. It’s probably one of his best known works, and there’s a reason why. I love a good ghost story and this one delivered. The thoughts of being snowed into a creepy mountain resort sounds horrifying. It’s a good Halloween read, but I think it’s even better in the dead of winter by a warm fire. The Shining will get your blood to pumping.
IT

IT had to be on this list just because I’m proud that I finished it. It’s a beast of a book that took me a couple of months to finish. My wrist will never be the same. The only reason it’s not higher on my list is the ending. It felt rushed and pulled out of nowhere, and I’m not a fan of that. Otherwise, I enjoyed every minute of this one.
There, I did it. I narrowed down my top five Stephen King books. Let me tell you it’s not an easy thing to do. But I’m going to ask you to do it anyhow. Tell me your top five in the comments!
Awesome list!! I LOVE The Body, but my favorite is The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon. It’s the first King book I read and it really kicked off my love of horror reads! 🙂
That is so cool! It’s on my tbr. I need to get to it!
