So I broke my book buying ban, but for a good reason! I had to get my Book of the Month box, so that I could get my Book of the Year pick. We won’t talk about the other three books that I grabbed, and one of them isn’t even from BOTM. The way I see it if I’m going to break the ban I might as well go big. Let’s do a little haul.
A History of Wild Places

I have loved all of Shea Ernshaw’s books. So when I saw A History of Wild Places I didn’t even read the synopsis. I was so excited to see this as a BOTM pick! I know her books are a bit divisive, but I love the atmosphere she creates so much. I’m hoping it will be the same for this one!
The Secret History

This book has never been on my radar, but for some reason it is now. I can’t really explain how I pick what I read next, but I just go with what feels right. I love the idea of dark academia; but, outside of Ninth House, I’ve never found one that I actually loved. And I’m hoping The Secret History will be just what I’m looking for.
The FOur Winds

The Four Winds is the BOTM Book of the Year. I’ve been wanting to get back into historical fiction, so I figured I should go with this one. I’ve seen so many good things about it. Someone on Instagram even compared it to The Grapes of Wrath. If it’s even remotely close to The Grapes of Wrath I’m sure I’ll love it.
The Bone Shard Daughter

Lastly, we have The Bone Shard Daughter. Obviously, it’s not BOTM, but I’m still super excited to have it. This is the first book that I’ve bought off of PangoBooks and let me just say it was an awesome first experience! This new release hardcover adult fantasy was listed for $12.00. With shipping I paid $15.57. It retails for $28.00. I just couldn’t pass up that deal. And I know it’s a used book, but it’s in perfect condition. I was going to buy it anyhow and I’m a fan of saving money.
That wraps up my sneaky little book haul. Now it’s time to buckle down and actually stick to my book buying ban. I really need to read what I have before I buy anything else. That’s going to be a big goal of mine in 2022.
