I’ve been in a major slump lately and I thought House of Sky and Breath might fix it. It was one of my most anticipated books of the year and I wanted to read it right when it came out. So I drove forty-five minutes to pick it up on release day. I even lucked up and got a signed edition.
But when I actually picked it up I just didn’t connect to it. To start with I don’t remember a lot of what happened in book one. So before I try to pick it up again I’m going to watch some recap videos.
My next issue was that Bryce and Hunt’s relationship seemed forced in this one. They weren’t really dating, but they were. I don’t know. It just wasn’t working for me.
So since I’m already slumpy I decided not to force it. And after watching Brandon Sanderson’s big announcement I wanted to dive back into the Cosmere. So I decided to pick up Elantris, and I’m absolutely loving it. I’m hoping this will be the one to break the slump.
I hope that Elantris fixes your reading slump. Life’s too short to carry on reading books that you don’t connect with.
