Mistborn: Secret History Review

Today’s post is probably going to be a quick one since I’m reviewing a novella. Let me start off by saying that I went into this knowing I don’t usually love short stories. A lot of times I find them lacking the depth that I love. But this one was Brandon Sanderson, so I had to give it a go. Let’s get to my review Mistborn: Secret History.

Disclaimer: Please stop reading here if you’ve not read the original Mistborn Trilogy. I’m going to do my best not to spoil the novella, but there’s no way to avoid spoiling the original trilogy. Move on at your own risk.

I liked Mistborn: Secret History, but I didn’t love it. It was fun visiting with Kelsier in the afterlife, but most of the story was just a recap of the first three books from his perspective. He does play a hand in how everything worked out though, so that was interesting. I guess the main thing I didn’t like was how disjointed it felt. But I’m really excited for what it sets up for the next books. I think that will be a ton of fun.

If you’re reading through the Cosmere I’d definitely recommend you read it though. It’s going to be important in the rest of the series.
