A buzzword is defined as a word or phrase that is fashionable at a particular time or in a particular context. And if you’ve been around the bookish internet for a while, you’ll know that certain buzzwords come and go. But we all have a few that will always get our attention. And today I wanted to share a few of mine. So, let’s talk about bookish buzzwords that get me every time.
Ghosts
I’ve loved ghost stories for as long as I can remember. And I think it all started with the Goosebumps books, and my inherent love for Scooby Doo. So, if a book claims to have a ghost element I will pick it up nine out of ten times.
Southern Gothic
I love the Gothic genre in general, but Southern Gothic is where my heart lives. Which I also blame on Scooby Doo. You can’t convince me that Scooby Doo on Zombie Island doesn’t have Southern Gothic vibes. I don’t know why I’m chasing a Scooby Doo rabbit trail today, but I’m going to blame it on lack of sleep. But either way, this buzzword gets bonus points if it’s a Southern Gothic with ghosts involved. That’s absolute perfection to me.
Vampires
Vampire is another buzzword that hooks me in. I’m a child of the Twilight era and I just can’t stop chasing that vampire high. And reading Dracula last year really intensified that love. So I’m always on the hunt for a new vampire book.
Spooky Woods
I love spooky woods. The thoughts of the dark, damp trees hiding an ominous secret is one of my favorite things. I especially love when the spooky woods almost become a character itself.
Folklore
Lastly, I’m always down for a folklore-based story. It doesn’t matter where the folklore originated from, I’m into all of it. Especially, if the folklore involves a spooky forest.
So those are the bookish buzzwords that get me every time. Let me know a few of yours in the comments.
