July 2023 Wrap Up

July was not a great reading month quantity wise, but quality wise it was pretty good. I found a new favorite and enjoyed the rest of what I picked up. Here’s my July 2023 wrap up.

Christine

Synopsis:

Evil is alive in Libertyville. It inhabits a custom-painted red and white 1958 Plymouth Fury named Christine and young Arnold Cunningham, who buys it. Along with Arnold’s girlfriend, Leigh Cabot, Dennis Guilder attempts to find out the real truth behind Christine and finds more than he bargained for: from murder to suicide, there’s a peculiar feeling that surrounds Christine–she gets revenge on anyone standing in her path. Mary Poppins

Synopsis:

From the moment Mary Poppins arrives at Number Seventeen Cherry-Tree Lane, everyday life at the Banks house is forever changed. It all starts when Mary Poppins is blown by the east wind onto the doorstep of the Banks house. She becomes a most unusual nanny to Jane, Michael, and the twins. Who else but Mary Poppins can slide up banisters, pull an entire armchair out of an empty carpetbag, and make a dose of medicine taste like delicious lime-juice cordial? A day with Mary Poppins is a day of magic and make-believe come to life

My Rating: 3/5

My Thoughts: This might be the first time that I prefer the movie to the book. This just felt like it was missing the whimsy that the movie created. It was fun but not quite as fun as the movie.

Frindle

My Rating: 5/5

My Thoughts: I read this when I was in elementary school and I thought it would be fun to reread it. And I really did enjoy it. It’s just an all-around good book.
