Warbreaker Review

It’s time for a review. I’ve been all caught up in the festive season and totally forgot what I was doing. So, let’s dive into my review for Warbreaker.

Synopsis

In Warbreaker, each person is born endowed with the power of one Breath. A few individuals who die in glory return, with the power of thousands of Breath, but no memory of their lives

To Vivenna and Siri, princesses of Idris, the abuse of Breath and the claim of the Returned to be gods are repugnant blasphemy. But with one princess wed to the God King of their nation’s enemies in a bid for peace, the other finds she must rely on Breath-using mercenaries to try to rescue her sister.

Lightsong the Bold starts investigating mysterious murders in the Court of Gods and uncovers haunting clues to his own forgotten past. He is one of four gods who controls the army of Awakened Lifeless soldiers, and one faction is inciting an invasion of Idris despite the marriage treaty. Vasher–wielder of the sapient sword Nightblood–works behind the scenes against the declaration of war, but Lightsong’s visions of bloodshed prophesy its inevitability.

My Thoughts on Warbreaker

It’s going to be no surprise that I loved Warbreaker. I haven’t met a Sanderson book that I didn’t like. Now I will say Warbreaker has Sanderson vibes, but it was also slightly different from the rest of the Cosmere. And I loved it for that.

The majority of the book takes place is a lush rainforest full of color and that’s where the magic system is derived from. The color-based system was wonderfully fleshed out and unique. It really stole the show. I loved exploring how it worked. I really enjoyed this world and the characters involved. It gripped me from the beginning. My only minor critique is that there were some dead spots where I lost interest. But then a new plot point emerged, and I would be drawn back in. Overall, it was a good read and I think any Sanderson lover would really enjoy it.

  1. I thought that I had read this one but your review doesn’t sound at all familiar so I obviously haven’t. I will definitely look out for it
