January 2024 TBR

Here we are. The first tbr of the year. It’s a time to start semi-fresh. Honestly, who am I kidding, you’ve seen almost all of these on my tbrs before. But hey maybe now’s the time to finally read them. Let’s dive into my January 2024 tbr.

Tress of the Emerald Sea

Synopsis:

The only life Tress has known on her island home in an emerald-green ocean has been a simple one, with the simple pleasures of collecting cups brought by sailors from faraway lands and listening to stories told by her friend Charlie. But when his father takes him on a voyage to find a bride and disaster strikes, Tress must stow away on a ship and seek the Sorceress of the deadly Midnight Sea. Amid the spore oceans where pirates abound, can Tress leave her simple life behind and make her own place sailing a sea where a single drop of water can mean instant death?

The first goal I put on my list for this year is to read all of the Secret Project books. So, it’s time to finally sit down and give Tress of the Emerald Sea a read. I’m so excited to finally give this a read.

Black Mouth

Synopsis:

For nearly two decades, Jamie Warren has been running from darkness. He’s haunted by a traumatic childhood and the guilt at having disappeared from his disabled brother’s life. But then a series of unusual events reunites him with his estranged brother and their childhood friends, and none of them can deny the sense of fate that has seemingly drawn them back together.Nor can they deny the memories of that summer, so long ago – the strange magic taught to them by an even stranger man, and the terrible act that has followed them all into adulthood. In the light of new danger, they must confront their past by facing their futures, and hunting down a man who may very well be a monster.

Another goal of mine is to read more of the books that I already have. Black Mouth has been on my shelf for a while. It’s time to finally give it a read and see if it’s worth all of the hype.

Spinning Silver

Synopsis:

Miryem is the daughter and granddaughter of moneylenders, but her father’s inability to collect his debts has left his family on the edge of poverty–until Miryem takes matters into her own hands. Hardening her heart, the young woman sets out to claim what is owed and soon gains a reputation for being able to turn silver into gold. When an ill-advised boast draws the attention of the king of the Staryk–grim fey creatures who seem more ice than flesh–Miryem’s fate, and that of two kingdoms, will be forever altered. She will face an impossible challenge and, along with two unlikely allies, uncover a secret that threatens to consume the lands of humans and Staryk alike.

I want to read a good story set in the winter and this was on everyone’s list. I’m a bit nervous to give this a try because I dnfed Uprooted several years ago. But I’m hoping the winter vibes are strong enough to draw me in.

Cytonic

Synopsis:

Spensa’s life as a Defiant Defense Force pilot has been far from ordinary. She proved herself one of the best starfighters in the human enclave of Detritus and she saved her people from extermination at the hands of the Krell–the enigmatic alien species that has been holding them captive for decades.

What’s more, she traveled light-years from home as an undercover spy to infiltrate the Superiority, where she learned of the galaxy beyond her small, desolate planet home. Now, the Superiority–the governing galactic alliance bent on dominating all human life–has started a galaxy-wide war. And Spensa’s seen the weapons they plan to use to end it: the Delvers. Ancient, mysterious alien forces that can wipe out entire planetary systems in an instant. Spensa knows that no matter how many pilots the DDF has, there is no defeating this predator.

Except that Spensa is Cytonic. She faced down a Delver and saw something eerily familiar about it. And maybe, if she’s able to figure out what she is, she could be more than just another pilot in this unfolding war. She could save the galaxy. The only way she can discover what she really is, though, is to leave behind all she knows and enter the Nowhere. A place from which few ever return. To have courage means facing fear. And this mission is terrifying.

Lastly, I want to give Cytonic a read. The series has finally been completed and I think now is the perfect time to binge read these. This series just makes me so happy and I want to start my year out right.

So that’s my January 2024 tbr. What are you reading this month?
