After a pretty good reading month in December, I was hoping that January would be just as good. But unfortunately, the first book I’ve picked up I decided to dnf. And now I’m jumping back and forth between books.

I started Spinning Silver because I want a winter themed book. Bring on the snow. While the setting gave me what I was looking for, the plot felt lacking. I was super interested in the first fifty percent but then I didn’t really care for the direction it took. And the cast of characters started to blend together. They didn’t have the distinct voices that I look for in a multiple pov story. I’m not super shocked. I’ve not connected with Naomi Novik’s writing style in the past, but I thought I’d give it another shot. I know a lot of people love this one it just didn’t work for me.

So yesterday, I dnfed Spinning Silver and tried to jump into Divine Rivals. I really think I’m going to enjoy it, but it just wasn’t what I was looking for right now. Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries keeps calling my name, so I think I’m going to give it a read. I haven’t started it just yet, but I hope to after work. Hopefully, it’s exactly what I’m wanting. It’s not too late to turn this reading month around.

I DNF’d my first Novak book and I haven’t looked back. lol I don’t think her writing style meshes with me. I am planning on reading Divine Rivals next week. I can’t wait to read Emily Wilde’s Encyclopedia of Faeries!!
aw i’m so sorry spinning silver ended up being such a disappointment, BUT FINGERS CROSSED EMILY WILDE IS MUCH BETTER!!
Too bad about Spinning Silver! It’s one I hope to read this year, since I did really like Uprooted (although I didn’t care for Deadly Education). I loved Emily Wilde — hope you do too!
Sorry the book didn’t connect with you! I enjoyed Uprooted but haven’t felt the need to read another one from the author yet.
