Ranking The Cosmere

I finished up a majority of Brandon Sanderson’s Cosmere books last year. Yay! So today I’m ranking The Cosmere books in order from the series/books I enjoyed the most to the least. I’m ranking them purely on my enjoyment. There’s nothing scientific or thought out at all, hahaha. Just my opinion. And honestly, I enjoyed every book in this world, so even my least favorite Cosmere book is still one of my favorite books in general.

Also, this isn’t an all inclusive list. I still haven’t read the Secret Projects or White Sands. I hope to do that this year. Once I’ve done that, I’ll do an updated post. Now that I’m done rambling let’s get to it.

Mistborn Era 2

I never imagined that Mistborn Era 2 would be my favorite series of the Cosmere, but here we are. I can’t stop thinking about this. And when I tell you I felt the entire range of emotions with this series I did. Especially the last book. I started sobbing at the end then it was funny and then I cried again. But seriously, I loveeedd that this series was built on the Mistborn Era 1 series. The stuff that we experienced with the characters from era one was the stuff that era two’s history/religion was based on. I just loved the duality of visiting old friends while getting to discover a new, more modern world at the same time.

Elantris

Honestly, I’m shocking myself with these rankings because I never imagined that a standalone would be this high up on the list. I’m a series girl and I always have been. But Elantris gave me everything I look for in a good fantasy. The world was fleshed out, the characters were lovable and developed, and the overarching plot was complex enough to keep my attention. Throw in a slightly scary magic system and a romance then I’ve got everything that I need.

Mistborn Era 1

Next up I loved the Mistborn Era 1 series. It was my first Cosmere series and it really stuck with me. I loved this unique world and magic system. It was unlike anything I’ve ever read before. And the characters absolutely stuck with me. I loved them all and I loved the creatures involved as well.

The Stormlight Archives

The Stormlight Archives is a beast of a series but it’s 100% worth the time. The world is unique, and the characters are lovable…. most of them……. But it felt like I was right there in the story with them. I’m really interested to see where this series goes. There are still quite a few unanswered questions, but I can’t wait to see this series wrapped up. I could see this bumping up to a higher spot, but without having the full series I don’t want to assume that just yet.

Warbreaker

Lastly, we have Warbreaker. I enjoyed this one too. It’s a great story. It felt a little different than the rest of the Cosmere but it still had all of the Sanderson vibes that I love. There were a few deadspots that lost my interest but then a new plot point would pop up and draw me back in. But the magic system was great. I absolutely loved the color based magic system and all of the color. I just didn’t connect with this one quite as much as the others.
