I’m so excited to be able to mark Tress of the Emerald Sea off of my tbr list. I made it a goal to read all of the Secret Projects this year and I’m excited that I’m sticking with it. Here’s my thoughts on it.
Synopsis
The only life Tress has known on her island home in an emerald-green ocean has been a simple one, with the simple pleasures of collecting cups brought by sailors from faraway lands and listening to stories told by her friend Charlie. But when his father takes him on a voyage to find a bride and disaster strikes, Tress must stow away on a ship and seek the Sorceress of the deadly Midnight Sea. Amid the spore oceans where pirates abound, can Tress leave her simple life behind and make her own place sailing a sea where a single drop of water can mean instant death?
My Thoughts on Tress of the Emerald Sea
Tress of the Emerald Sea was a fun, lighthearted (with some tense spots) novel with a slightly naive character. But Tress added so much charm to this story that I don’t think it would have worked with any other character. I also LOVED Hoid as a narrator even if he wasn’t quite himself. This was an endearing book with a lot of humor along the way.
It got a little slow toward the end, but Sanderson wrapped it up in a fun and unexpected way. I really enjoyed this story and all of the Cosmere Easter eggs. I hope all of the Secret Project books are this much fun.
My Rating: 4/5
