There’s just something about a thriller that screams summer to me. I always gravitate towards a quick read with tense moments that keep me on the edge of my seat as a vacation read. Bonus points if it’s set on the beach or outdoors. I just love that vibe. So, let’s talk about a few summer thrillers that I have my eye on.
Middle of the Night

Like I said in my Ranking Riley Sager post, it’s not summer without the latest Sager thriller. I’m patiently (sort of) waiting to go home because Middle of the Night is in my mailbox as we speak. I’m not even completely sure what this one is about but I have such high hopes for it.
When Cicadas Cry

If I’m being completely honest, the name and cover for When Cicadas Cry is what caught my attention first. And the synopsis made me want to read it even more. When a woman is murdered in a small town in North Carolina the investigation unearths secrets that have been hidden for years. I love reading about small towns with dark secrets. Plus, a tagline on the front cover says, “John Grisham meets Harper Lee in this immersive thriller.” Those are high stakes to meet, and I can’t wait to give it a read.
The Midnight Feast

Lucy Foley is quickly becoming a powerhouse in the thriller world but I’ve yet to read anything by her. And I don’t know why, but I figured The Midnight Feast would be a great place to start. The Manor has just opened up as a hot new luxury resort. Everything is perfect and ready to dazzle the guests. But one midsummer night darkness stirs and Sunday morning dawns bright on the wreckage of the night before. This just sounds like a perfect summer read full of tension and intrigue. Plus, it’s set in a hotel and has all of the vacation vibes. I’m here for it.
The Nature of Disappearing

Lastly, we have The Nature of Disappearing which follows Emlyn who lives in an airstream trailer and works as a fishing guide. But one day her ex-boyfriend shows up to tell her that her friend Janessa is missing. So, she sets out to find what happened to her friend only to realize she might be in danger as well. I’m not 100% sure that this is set in summer, but I associate camping and the outdoors with summertime. I think this would be a great read and the setting really intrigues me.
So those are a few summer thrillers that have caught my eye. Have you read any of these? Let me know in the comments.
