Rachel Harrison is quickly becoming one of my auto-buy authors and So Thirsty was exactly what I was hoping it would be. Let’s get to my review.
Synopsis
Sloane Parker is dreading her birthday. She doesn’t need a reminder she’s getting older, or that she’s feeling indifferent about her own life. Her husband surprises her with a birthday-weekend getaway–not with him, but with Sloane’s longtime best friend, troublemaker extraordinaire Naomi. Sloane anticipates a weekend of wine tastings and cozy robes and strategic avoidance of issues she’d rather not confront, like her husband’s repeated infidelity.
But when they arrive at their rental cottage, it becomes clear Naomi has something else in mind. She wants Sloane to stop letting things happen to her, for Sloane to really live. So Naomi orchestrates a wild night out with a group of mysterious strangers, only for it to take a horrifying turn that changes Sloane’s and Naomi’s lives literally forever. The friends are forced to come to terms with some pretty eternal consequences in this bloody, seductive novel about how it’s never too late to find satisfaction, even though it might taste different than expected.
My Thoughts on So Thirsty
Rachel Harrison has a unique way of taking the horror genre and turning it on its head. And I think So Thirsty showcased that really well. It started out great with a girls’ trip to a remote resort that of course is a little creepy. It was headed in a very familiar direction until it wasn’t.
After attending a party in a weird mansion full of creepy people our main characters’ lives will never be the same. And honestly, the mansion scene was horrifying. There was just this foreboding feeling that set everything off. It kept me on the edge of my seat.
But after the girls left the mansion, they set off on a road trip to start a new life and regain their power. Imagine Laverne and Shirley plus vampires. That’s really the vibe it gave me.
All in all, So Thirsty was a great spin on the classic vampire trope and I enjoyed every minute of it. It was horrifying, cozy, and empowering all in the same breath and that’s a hard thing to balance but Harrison absolutely did it.
My Rating: 5/5
