How I Plan to Read Intentionally in 2025

One of my goals for this year is to fall in love with reading again. 2024 took a lot out of me and a lot out of my reading year. Reading became like a chore and I just really didn’t enjoy it. So this year I want to read intentionally. I want to be sure that I love what I pick up and if I don’t, I don’t want to waste my time on it. Here are a few ways I’m going to do that.

Ignore the Hype

It’s the nature of blogging to want to follow the hype train. Fomo is a beast. But not every hyped book fits my reading taste and that’s ok. I shouldn’t try to force myself to read books that aren’t meant for me just because they’re hyped. If it’s not my taste I’m just going to pass. I would rather read books I love. Now if a hyped book is genuinely something that I think I’ll enjoy then I’ll give it a go but otherwise I’m going to be comfortable in my comfort zone. Some years are for adventuring and some years are for comfort.

Make Mindful Purchases

This sort of goes along with ignoring the hype. I get really excited really easily. If I read a synopsis that even briefly sounds like something I might possibly enjoy then I want the book right now, Then I impulse purchase and by the time I get around to reading it (if I ever do) then the excitement has worn off and they don’t always work. So this year if I read a synopsis that interests me I’m going to add it to my Goodreads tbr. Then I’m going to wait 24hrs and read the synopsis again. If it’s still as exciting after 24hrs I will consider buying it.

Return to Series/Authors that I Love

Like I said above, some years are for exploring new genres and some years are for comfort zones. 2025 is going to be the year of comfort zones. They’re comfortable for a reason. If I know I love an author’s work or a certain series that’s what I’m going to prioritize. Returning to the Cosmere has really helped my desire to read so I’m going to stick with what I know. If it’s not broke don’t fix it.

So that’s how I’m going to read intentionally this year. I really hope that these tips help and that 2025 is an awesome reading year.

  1. That sounds like a great approach to reading for this year. Sometimes you just need that security of knowing that you are definitely going to enjoy a book. I think that’s why I reread so many books. I hope that this helps you keep your love of reading

  2. such great advice!! I really need to get better at ignoring the FOMO, because following the hype is not leading me to reading the best things. And I do find I’m returning more and more to authors I already love, because that’s what makes me happiest 😀

    1. Thanks for reading! Isn’t it refreshing to return to something you love after a few misses. Definitely read what makes you happiest. There’s no shame in that.
