Tomorrow is my birthday! I’m turning 28. My brain hasn’t caught up yet, but it’s happening despite that, hahaha. So I thought I would do The Birthday Book Tag to celebrate.
Also, on a side note I finally got my snow! It’s such a rare thing here in Alabama but we had about two inches. That just felt like a nice start to the birthday weekend.
I found this tag over at Colour Me Read. Be sure to check out her post as well.
1) Birthday Cake (A book with a plot that seems cliché but you adore it anyway)
Ooof so I might get a lot of hate for this one, but I’m sorry, guys. Fourth Wing felt so cliche but that’s why I adored it. It felt like the books I fell in love with as a teenager.
2) Party Guests (Your most anticipated book release for this year)
Right now, it’s The Devils by Joe Abercrombie. Honestly, that’s weird because I’ve tried to read his other series and didn’t mesh with his writing. But the premise of this one seems so good.
3) Birthday Presents (A book that surprised you with how much you loved it)
The Exorcist surprised me. I tried to read it a couple of years back and thought it was absolutely dull, so I dnfed it. In 2023, I found my copy buried in some boxes that I hadn’t unpack from moving and gave it another shot. It was so good! That just goes to show that sometimes the issue isn’t the book it’s just not the right time to read that book.
4) “Happy Birthday” Song (A book that certainly deserved all the hype it got)
I hate to go with another Sanderson book but it’s where my brain is right now. The Lost Metal Review absolutely deserved all of the hype. That book tore my soul out of my chest and solidified the Wax and Wayne series as one of my favorite Cosmere series of all times.
5) Happy Music (A book with some very beautiful and truly memorable quotes)
I haven’t finished it yet but Wind and Truth already has so many great quotes. I’ve started a list.
6) Getting Older (A book that you read a long time ago, but you think you would appreciate more if you read it as a more mature reader)
I read A Time to Kill as a teenager, and I enjoyed it, but I think if I had read it as an adult I might have liked it better. There was a lot of court jargon that kind of went over my head then. But honestly, I didn’t like it enough to reread it, hahaha.
7) Sweet Birthday Memories (A book that kept you incredibly happy during a sad or demanding period of your life)
I read The Hero of Ages about a week or so after my father passed away. I literally stayed in bed and binge read it every off chance that I had. I will always appreciate Brandon Sanderson’s ability to whisk me away into another world.
So that’s The Birthday Book Tag. If you’re a fellow January baby I urge you to play along.

Happy 28th birthday!!!
Thank you!
Happy birthday! Also, totally agree with you on Fourth Wing. It felt soooo much like the fantasy books I read when I was younger, which I enjoyed, but didn’t expect with all the hype.
Thank you!
