A while back, I put Gardens of the Moon on the top of my list in my Books that Intimidate Me post. This series absolutely intimidates me but the hype around it is crazy. I’ve heard numerous people say that it’s their favorite fantasy series of all times and, honestly, I don’t want to miss out. I’m starting Malazan Book of the Fallen this week and I want to talk about my thoughts so far because talking about your fears will help you get over them, hahaha.
Right now, I’m about forty pages in and I can safely say this book is unlike anything I’ve ever read. The writing is great, and I think I’ll be able to immerse myself in this world if I ever get the time to read for a little while. I’ve only been able to read a page or two at a time, so at this rate I’ll be finished by this time next year. But hopefully, I can squeeze in some time to read this weekend, so I can form a more concrete opinion on this one. Since it’s going to take me a decent amount of time to read this, I’ll probably do a few updates every now and again just to keep my thoughts organized. Anyhow, if you’ve read Malazan Book of the Fallen let me know your thoughts in the comments. I also need a pep talk, hahaha.

I have reread it three times. You will love it. So much depth and cleverness. You won’t be able to select a favorite but fiddler, stormy and kalam are a good place to start. Gangs is the easy one to like but search for deeper dives in this series.
That’s good to hear! I can’t wait to really dive into it!
The series takes commitment. It rewards repeat reads and Wikipedia is your friend! It’s my second favorite all time!
I can definitely tell it’s going to take some commitment! And the Wikipedia idea is brilliant!
I just finished Garden of the Moon about a month ago, and can say it’s worth it! Took me about a year to read it though haha
I think I’m going to be in the same boat. I read about 100 pages in and had to take a break. I loved every bit of it, but I also felt like my brain was going to melt haha.
I’ve read the first nine books. Still haven’t read The Crippled God, but I’m hoping to soon. It’s an amazing series. Right up there with The Wheel of Time as my favorites. If it’s taking a while to get through the first one, wait until you get to Dust of Dreams. It’s over 1200 pages!
Oh, that sounds like a beast. I took that quick break and I’m already missing it, so I think I’m hooked already.
You should definitely keep with it! Don’t worry about how long it will take you, because it will take some time! I also can only read some pages at a time, but it’s definitely worth it! I’m in the final book of the series and it has taken years to get through, but it really doesn’t seem that long or bad once you’re in the thick of it! Lol There are certain books that take longer to get into, but those ended up being some of my favorites, actually! Lol Enjoy!
Thanks for the encouragement! I took a quick break from it, but I already find myself missing it lol.
