After a great reading month in March, I’ve hit a bit of a lull, so I don’t have much planned this month. I started Gardens of the Moon, but I’m not in the headspace to read that right now. So, let’s talk about what I do plan to add to my April 2025 tbr.
Howling Dark

Synopsis:
Hadrian Marlowe is lost.
For half a century, he has searched the farther suns for the lost planet of Vorgossos, hoping to discover a way to contact the elusive alien Cielcin. He has pursued false leads for years among the barbarian Normans as captain of a band of mercenaries, but Hadrian remains determined to make peace and bring an end to nearly four hundred years of war.
Desperate to find answers, Hadrian must venture beyond the security of the Sollan Empire and among the Extrasolarians who dwell between the stars. There, he will face not only the aliens he has come to offer peace, but contend with creatures that once were human, with traitors in his midst, and with a meeting that will bring him face to face with no less than the oldest enemy of mankind.
Empire of Silence has a hold on my brain, and I want to read Howling Dark this month to see if it will satisfy me. I’ve already started it and I’m about fifty pages in and it’s been good so far.
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn

Synopsis:
Mark Twain’s tale of a boy’s picaresque journey down the Mississippi on a raft conveyed the voice and experience of the American frontier as no other work had done before. When Huck escapes from his drunken father and the ‘sivilizing’ Widow Douglas with the runaway slave Jim, he embarks on a series of adventures that draw him to feuding families and the trickery of the unscrupulous ‘Duke’ and ‘Dauphin’. Beneath the exploits, however, are more serious undercurrents – of slavery, adult control and, above all, of Huck’s struggle between his instinctive goodness and the corrupt values of society, which threaten his deep and enduring friendship with Jim.
I want to read James, but I want to re-read The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn before I do. People have told me that I don’t have to read it before reading James, but my brain says I have to.
So that’s my April 2025 TBR. What are you reading this month?
