The Shadow of the Gods Review

Despite dnfing The Shadow of the Gods a few years back, I ended up enjoying it this go round. Let’s get into my review.

Synopsis

A century has passed since the gods fought and drove themselves to extinction. Now only their bones remain, promising great power to those brave enough to seek them out.

As whispers of war echo across the land of Vigrid, fate follows in the footsteps of three warriors: a huntress on a dangerous quest, a noblewoman pursuing battle fame, and a thrall seeking vengeance among the mercenaries known as the Bloodsworn.

All three will shape the fate of the world as it once more falls under the shadow of the gods.

My Thoughts on The Shadow of the Gods

I’m so glad I gave The Shadow of the Gods another try. This time I was hooked from the very beginning. Orka’s point of view was a great place to start off this series. Honestly, I wish I hadn’t gotten attached so soon because the action started right away and it broke my heart.

While Orka’s was my favorite point of view I enjoyed the others as well. My only minor issue was that I kept getting Elvar and Varg’s a little confused. They were super similar in the beginning. It wasn’t the main characters themselves that I confused but Varg belonged to the mercenary group The Bloodsworn and Elvar belonged to the mercenary group called The Battle Grim. The secondary characters had similar names, and the mercenary groups had similar objectives, so keeping them straight was a bit tricky. Once I became more familiar with them though it sorted itself out.

Overall, The Shadow of the Gods was an interesting action-packed story with a unique twist on the dead gods trope. I enjoyed the way this story played out and I’m looking forward to seeing where the rest of the series goes.
