DNF Diaries Revisited: The Shadow of the Gods

The Shadow of the Gods

I started the DNF Diaries last month and I have another entry. This one is a little different. I’m calling it the DNF Diaries Revisited. I’m going to take a book I’ve previously dnfed and give it another shot. Today I’m giving The Shadow of the Gods it’s chance.

Synopsis

A century has passed since the gods fought and drove themselves to extinction. Now only their bones remain, promising great power to those brave enough to seek them out.

As whispers of war echo across the land of Vigrid, fate follows in the footsteps of three warriors: a huntress on a dangerous quest, a noblewoman pursuing battle fame, and a thrall seeking vengeance among the mercenaries known as the Bloodsworn.

All three will shape the fate of the world as it once more falls under the shadow of the gods.

Thoughts Before the First Chapter

I don’t remember exactly why I dnfed The Shadow of the Gods. Honestly, I suspect I wasn’t in the right mood for it. I was right in the middle of reading the Mistborn series and it really consumed my world at that point. But after seeing great reviews for the completed series, I started getting fomo.

Thoughts After the First Chapter

Yeah, I definitely don’t know why I dnfed this. It must have been a not the right book at the right time situation. After reading the first two chapters I’m super excited to dive into this one. It seems like it’s going to be an immersive world full of action and lore. Plus, I’m excited that the series is complete because I would love to have a good binge read.

  1. I think being in the right mood for a book is really important sometimes. There are books that I know I probably just wasn’t in the right frame of mind to enjoy but then there are others that I know I will never want to finish. I’m glad that you gave this one another chance and are enjoying it.

  2. Glad you’re enjoying it more on the second try! Beingnin the right mood for a book can be really important. I have this one on my TBR, but who knows when I’ll get to it!
