DNF Diaries Revisited: House of Flame and Shadow

House of Flame and Shadow first appeared on the blog in March of 2024. I think I dnfed it right around then. However, the release of A Court of Splintered Harmony made me have a bit of fomo. So, let’s talk about why I’m picking up House of Flame and Shadow.

Why I DNFED House of Flame and Shadow.

I can’t exactly pin down an exact reason why I dnfed House of Flame and Shadow. I did mention that I was going into a book slump and the details were bogging me down, which is fair. The first chunk of this book is a tad slow. But I think the main reason was outside of the books control. Around March 2024, I found out I was pregnant and that first trimester was rough. I went into a book slump. Then later in 2024, I fell and broke both of my legs. I thought I would read even more since I was stuck on bedrest. I didn’t. By the time I came out of the book slump I’d lost interest in House of Flame and Shadow.

Why I’m giving it another try.

A Court of Splintered Harmony is coming out in October. I’m looking forward to reading it, but I knew there was a connection to House of Flame and Shadow. I decided to listen to the audiobook on my way home from work just to give it another try.

How it’s going.

After a couple of hours, I was hooked. I fell back in love with this world and the characters. Now I’ve got to buy the books again. I thought I was done with the series, so I sold them on Pango. I guess this is why they don’t want you to make decisions when you’re pregnant, haha.

So anyhow it’s safe to say I’ve returned to the Sarah J Maas fandom. Now I’m anxiously awaiting October 27.
