Ranking The Wax and Wayne Series

Let’s rank another Cosmere series. The Wax and Wayne Series is probably my favorite series to date, so it was hard to rank this one. Here’s what I came up with.

Shadows of Self

Shadows of Self was easily my favorite book in this series. I loved the interactions between the era 1 and era 2 characters. The world was expanded even further. And there was still a crime fighting element but with some political machinations added in.

The Lost Metal

Brandon Sanderson killed my emotions with The Lost Metal. There were a few new plotlines and characters that I had to adjust to which left the story feeling a bit disjointed at first. But then it all came together, and it was an epic conclusion to this series. And, boy, that ending just knocked it out of the park.

The Alloy of Law

The Alloy of Law was amazing. I loved returning to the Mistborn world. The construction of the story was great. The characters from Mistborn: Era 1 are deified in this series. It’s interesting to see the gaps in the characters’ knowledge of the events in Mistborn: Era 1. It’s like when we study the history of our world. There are bound to be gaps in our knowledge as well. There were also a lot of great plot twists that kept the crime fiction interesting.

The Bands of Mourning

In The Bands of Mourning there’s a travel element to the story that I enjoyed. It made it obvious that the Mistborn world is more expansive than the readers, or the characters, realize. I also loved the Sanderson brought back the supernatural elements that I loved in the first Mistborn series. This one felt like it was the bridge that connected the first two books to the last book. It was a necessary part of the story, but it didn’t have quite as strong of an impact as the other books.

So that’s how I rank books in The Wax and Wayne series. What about you? How would you rate them?

  1. I’ve only read the first two in this series and then I never really got around to reading the next two. I think that I really need to reread the whole mistborn series and remind myself of how good it is.
