The Body Snatcher by Robert Louis Stevenson

The Body Snatcher

Hey, guys. I’m dropping in today with a very quick review of a very quick read. But I really enjoyed The Body Snatcher, so I think it needs to be talked about. Let’s get to it.

Synopsis

The Body Snatcher” is a short story by the Scottish author Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894). First published in the Pall Mall Christmas “Extra” in December 1884, its characters were based on criminals in the employ of real-life surgeon Robert Knox (1791-1862) around the time of the notorious Burke and Hare murders (1828).

My Thought on The Body Snatcher

The Body Snatcher is short. I think it was like twenty something pages in my edition, but it didn’t lack intrigue. It had the same gothic, atmospheric feeling that I loved so much from Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I also really loved the subject matter. Stealing corpses from their graves is a very common theme in Victorian horror, but this book is one of the best to explore it. Overall, I had a great time with this short story, and I look forward to reading more from the author.
