I’m a pretty seasoned reader but there are definitely some books that intimidate me. Let’s talk about them.
Malazan Series

Malazan intimidates me because of the sheer size of the series. The series and companion series totaled have around thirty books. That’s quite a lot bigger than any other series that I have read. Honesty, I think I will have to take notes to keep up with things. I bought Gardens of the Moon this Saturday and so I hope to give it a read soon.
The Lord of the Rings

The Lord of the Rings intimidates me because it’s a classic and so many people love it. I’m afraid I won’t because I didn’t love The Hobbit. I don’t want to be kicked out of the fantasy readers community because of my controversial opinion, hahaha.
Murderbot

If I’m being honest, sci-fi in general intimidates me and Murderbot is at the top of the list. I normally don’t like AI/Robot stories, but this one sounds so fun and unique. And they’re all pretty small books so maybe it’s a good jumping in point.
The Stand

Lastly, The Stand intimidates me. I don’t want to catch The Stand Plague. If you’ve never heard of The Stand Plague, I suggest you find the nearest Constant Readers Facebook group to experience that. The number of people that get sick while reading The Stand is quite intimidating in itself lol.
So those are some books that intimidate me. Do you have any on your list?

Great post! I’m sure you’ve heard this already, but not liking the Hobbit doesn’t mean you won’t enjoy LOTR! They’re very different in tone, and really different reading experiences. The Murderbot books are fun! I read the first four and never got around to continuing — and the nice thing is that the ones I read are all novella-length, so very low commitment. Good luck!
Thanks! And I have heard that before about LOTR. I’m going to read them one day. I just don’t know when, hahaha.
I have felt the same way about Murderbot! I finally jumped in and now I’m obsessed. haha. I still don’t typically read Sci-Fi, but there’s a lot more to this!! They have a show coming out in May. 🙂
That’s exciting! I’m hoping to get to it this month!
