The Great Hunt Review

One of my goals for the year is to read as far into The Wheel of Time series as I can. So I started The Great Hunt. It was ok, but I’m beginning to reconsider this challenge. Let’s talk.

For centuries gleeman have told of The Great Hunt of the Horn. Now it has been found and stolen. So the hunt begins again.

My Thoughts on The Great Hunt

I love The Eye of the World, so I was pretty excited to start The Great Hunt. But unfortunately, I lost interest in the very beginning. After all of the journeying in The Eye of the World, I was hoping the plot would settle down and become more establish. But that didn’t happen. There was more journeying to do. I began to feel like a child on a road trip because I kept thinking are we there yet.

I was also wanting to learn more about the Aes Sedai, but there wasn’t as much information given as I’d hoped. I’m hoping that comes in the next one.

And another thing, I’ve completely finished book one and two and I’m still a little confused on who the bad guys are. There are lots of names and I’m still getting familiar with them. And I’m not new to fantasy so I don’t know why it’s taking me so long to figure out. But if I pick up book three, I’m definitely getting The Wheel of Time Companion.

While I had some pretty major issues with book two, the ending was interesting. And several storylines were introduced and I’m interested to see how they develop. I’m hoping The Great Hunt is just suffering from second book syndrome. Hopefully, I’ll like book three better.

My Rating: 3/5

  1. It’s years since I read them but I’m fairly sure that the journeying is a constant for a lot of the books
