Kings of the Wyld Review

Kings of the Wyld

Well….that was something. Let’s review Kings of the Wyld.

Synopsis

Clay Cooper and his band were once the best of the best, the most feared and renowned crew of mercenaries this side of the Heartwyld.

Their glory days long past, the mercs have grown apart and grown old, fat, drunk, or a combination of the three. Then an ex-bandmate turns up at Clay’s door with a plea for help — the kind of mission that only the very brave or the very stupid would sign up for.

It’s time to get the band back together.

My Thoughts on Kings of the Wyld

Rock and Roll meets epic fantasy. What more could you ask for? Kings of the Wyld is a lot. There’s a lot of humor. A lot of action. And a lot of fantastical monsters. From the moment this book begins it sets off at a break neck pace and it doesn’t slow down until the end. It’s definitely a plot driven story with little time for character growth. However, that doesn’t mean the characters are underdeveloped you just have to take them at face value. They are who they are and they don’t stray from that.

Honestly, this story reads like it was written by a music obsessed D&D player and I mean that in the nicest of ways. The merc bands in this world function like rock bands including headliners and world tours to fight unimaginable fantastic creatures. I’ve never read anything like Kings of the Wyld and I’m really glad I took the time to. Overall, it was a fun cotton candy read with some heartfelt moments and epic action mixed in. I don’t know if I will continue the series, but I might decide to when I need a light fantasy read.

My Rating: 4/5

  1. i’ve seen this one around! not sure if i can enjoy fantasy with little character growth (that’s just me) but if the plot is interesting, I might be willing to overlook it. Really enjoyed reading your thoughts, its def convinced me to look into it more ✨

    1. Thanks for reading! Normally, little character growth would bother me as well. That’s usually my favorite part of the story. But the action in this one didn’t give me much time to miss it, hahaha.
